IVAs (Individual Voluntary Arrangement) were introduced by the government to offer people an alternative to bankruptcy.
An IVA lets you come to an arrangement with your creditors whereby they agree to let you pay back only a portion of your debt in monthly installments. The rest of your debt is written off.
With an IVA a portion of your debt is written off completely.
It is not unusual for up to 75% of a debt to be written off with an IVA.
And when the IVA has been completed, you are debt free.
